This holiday retreat — or “bach” to use the New Zealand term — was sited in the hills of the Coromandel Peninsula on a 35 acre site overlooking the ocean.
Steep conditions and the heavily wooded native bush reduced accessibility to all but one acre. A responsive design was drawn up for a two-bedroom home with separate quarters to accommodate three guests. Construction drew on a limited palette of natural materials to blend with the surrounding environment.
